Crockett Coonhound

The Crockett Coonhound

We would love for you to strike on our tree and become one of our supporting branches. The Crockett Coonhound is focused on outdoor life and country living. Be a part of our campfire talks right inside your inbox!

The Crockett Coonhound is all about getting parents and kids outdoors. Our mission is to remove the fear and anxiety that blocks outside time and forces people to spend even more time inside. We call ourselves by the Crockett Coonhound name because of David Crockett life was in the wilderness and in the political scene. The "king of the wild frontiers" was also a coon hunter and the coonhound isn't afraid of anything in the day or the night.

We have a website, YouTube channel, courses, social media, a podcast, and a live show to showcase our message to the world. We would love for brands and businesses to advertise their products or services on our media outlets!

Here is a quick description about the main guys!

Lawrenceburg Tennessee is where David Crockett began his political career. It just so happens that Lawrenceburg TN is also the hometown of Mike and Josh. The Crockett Coonhound is the outdoor focused website and show where Mike and Josh take the life and times of David Crockett and see if they can relate to today's culture in an educational (and sometimes comical) way. These part time rednecks show parents what to do in order to take kids on outdoor adventures. The coon hunting episodes are for showing kids there is nothing to be afraid of in the dark and how many of our plants and animals only come out at night! The website has resources they use, courses they teach and links to their live shows and videos!

Our Team of Part Time Rednecks

The team here at the crockett coonhound are all outdoor enthusiast. We have many different backgrounds in life we bring to the team. We all have day jobs to work for a living but deep down, we're still rednecks!

Josh Brown

The Crockett Cooner

The whole concept was built around Josh and his son David. He's been a professional coon hunter and has many high end dogs with his company "Brownies black and tans" and he has learned how to be an avid outdoorsman.

Mike grew up way out of town where agriculture and cows outnumber the people. His family had an outdoors store across the road from a general store where people talked and shared tips.

John Mitchell

Camera man and drone

Mitchell grew up out in the woods where his parents had a 5 pond fish hatchery. He had all kinds of 4 wheeler adventures and other redneck things that led him to be a wildman growing up. He also coon hunts.

John Williams

Drone guy and coon hunter

Williams grew up beside a golf course on the edge of town where an atv could take you to the woods on the streets. He's retired Air Force so he's seen more countries than the other rednecks. He also coon hunts.

The Crockett Coonhound Story

Josh has been a coon hunter for many years and even had his own business call Brownies Black and Tans where he specialized in the professional hunts all over the country. Mike has been a fly fisherman since 1988 and has been an avid hunter and outdoorsman for a long time. Mike's family members had an outdoor store with 3d archery, long distance rifle, skeet shooting and more within walking distance of his house. From grade school on, Mike and Josh have been buddies and when they started The Older Dad Show, they wanted an outdoor focused channel to teach parents about the outdoors. So they can have nothing to fear when planning a trip with their own kids.

The Outdoor Problem

The outdoor movement has been going on for sometime. Outdoor magazines have labeled Chattanooga TN the top place to live for outdoor enthusiast for years in a row, and it's just 2.5hrs east of Mike and Josh. Phones and gaming are limiting the attention a little from kids wanting outdoors but we feel it's the parents who are to blame. Today's parents do not take their kids outdoors as much or are afraid of outdoor activity for them. Some parents are scared of creeps in the park or strangers in the woods and become anxious. Others are afraid of their child getting hurt while outdoors and wont take chance on outdoor fun. Some may have poor planning skills or have limited funds that pose a barrier to being prepared for the outdoors.

The Outside Solution

Everyone has the potential and ability to go somewhere outside. Even prisons have a yard where inmates can get outside time. The outdoors doesn't have to be a burden to be enjoyed. Every city has parks and public transportation that stops nearby. Any suburban area has parks or outdoor spaces parents can take their families. We believe a parent can visit the outdoor spaces before hand and see what provisions they need to have to bring their kids to play outside! This reconnaissance can also be done online through google maps or website of the park. We also teach tips and tricks to get your kids attention and participation in the outdoors. We also cover protection and care of your kids if there is a dangerous threat or one gets hurt in the woods.

Amish Benefits

Mike and Josh also live next to Ethridge Tn where the largest Amish Community location in the south! Living amongst the Amish has taught them how to do things with simple hand tools by the manual way. These Amish live with the land and know a lot about plants and animals. The Crockett Coonhound features old ways of doing task along with more modern methods. The Progeny Adventure Group LLC also owns The Amish of Ethridge website so we keep in close contact with the Amish and learn many things about their ways.

Outdoor Adventure

First and foremost The Crockett Coonhound is all about teaching parents how to take their kids outdoors. We love to see families play outside and learn about nature. We believe humans need outside time to relieve stress and be in the rural environment. This outdoor life needs things to make life better while outside and we cover a list of resources and price points to go by when choosing products!

Outdoor Living

We talk about outdoor kitchens where we teach gardening and food preparation along with outdoor grills with various heating methods and accessories. Camping is prefered when staying overnight and we talk about RV's and tent style camping with all that goes into a night outside. How to get food is also covered by hunting and fishing strategies and when to just hire a guide.

Outdoors after dark

Raccoon hunting is included as a nighttime activity. You don't even need to shoot the raccoon in order to hunt them. All you need is a dog and a few items to get you in and out of the woods. Pets can teach kids responsibility and the night comes alive with plants and animals that only come out at night. So The Crockett Coonhound will be right there with you on the leash!

How about some barking mad statistics!

This STUDY says outdoor recreation is 2.1% of our nation's GDP at 459.8 billion. Here is another study that shows positive predictive statistics we can rely on. So if American kids are spending less time outside but are sending more quality time when they do get out. This would account for the rise of consumer spending on outdoor related products and services.  These * are links below!

Future Trends Favor the Outdoors!

According to this review from Harvard. There may be areas of our daily lives that continue after the covid-19 pandemic goes away. If these areas do continue then The Crockett Coonhound will be a great place to hear content.

Working from home or a room!

You don't worry about traffic when your office is in your home. Some people are a 1099 contractor and live out of a hotel when they're not on the job. These non workplace employees have the ability to go out during times that are consistent with their jobs and some can have their kids with them to go outside!  Homeschooling is also on the rise and this schedule can afford many outdoor learning opportunities!

Man and son getting photo in park.

Single living.

There are fewer people getting married now and still more who are but work different work schedules. These single living people can use the outdoors to teach and entertain their kids. Even the local playground is a start when taking kids outside to play but we show parents how they can explore the trails and waterways with confidence. Sometimes it's good to have one on one time with each parent if they have 1 or more kids at home.

I need my space

People are moving in both directions. Some are moving to more urban areas from the rural and some are moving from the urban areas to the rural. Both have their reasons but both can search and find a place where they can go outside into the outdoor area of choice. There are times we love the deep woods and there are places we love simply because of the well kept manicured upkeep of a great park. No matter where you live, you can find a space you like!

We use our coonhound eyes, ears and nose!

1

Our Eyes

We look for trends in personal activities and issues facing how the outdoors are perceived. There are treadmills now with screens that take you through places you couldn't go during your morning jog. We believe interactive technologies will strengthen these places through travel later, when the person has the chance to go in person. The idea of outdoor travel will encourage a longing for the real experience later. Our coonhound eyes can spot micro industries and other outdoor activities on the rise and find out how a person can play along. There are lots of room for future development for new ways of outdoor life being made!

2

Our Ears

We hear the conversations others are having about outdoor adventures. The outdoors is vast and covers caves below the ground, the earth to walk on the ground, and the sky above to fly around. There are just so many ways to have fun outside! Online is where the conversation starts so how a place is talked about does influence others in choosing a place to go. Having opinions from others also may hurt a business when bad experiences or a new type of outdoor experience is said to be better. We try to map the experience of other to personality types and comfortability to compatibility so that we can offer a good time outside!

3

Our Nose

We don't make our own trail here very often, we can track the trail others have gone before us and we've wondered up on the boots of giants. John Muir, John James Audubon, Enos Mills, Aldo Leopold, Ansel Adams, and others. Where would we be without the films of Jacques Cousteau and David Attenborough? To see wildlife up close from Steve Irwin? Ladies can't be left out either. The works of Rachel Carson, Margaret Thomas Murie, and Jane Goodall have taught us all about conservation and ecological responsibility. We will follow the trails set by these famous conservationist so that others can have somewhere to go outdoors!

Answering the bark of what if's

Everyone has different opinions on why the outdoors are a pro or a con. Sure, the bugs and weather are sometimes bad or the parks are crowded but we believe it's worth it to go outdoors. The political times we're in are aiming towards giving the public lands to commercial development and we should protect them for the generations to come because if nobody visits the parks then why should we protect them from those who would use them up?  The Pro categories show our ideas for a better way and the Cons are for when you do nothing.

Pros:

  • Going outside is great for the body and can offer a great way to play with kids.
  •  Education about the natural world is better when you can see it in action.
  • Outdoor experiences can enhance a person's life and certain activities can become passed down to their kids.
  •  The future of our wild places and national parks can be enhanced if more people visit them.

Cons:

  • Outdoor activities require time and energy to properly be enjoyed.
  • Lack of background knowledge in the outdoors can lead to anxiety or stress.
  • Poor planning and bad weather may lead to bad experiences and may cause people to never try again.
  •  High expectations and monetary requirements of some outdoor activities may keep people inside.

Our Coonhound Conclusion:

Let's be real. The Crockett Coonhound wants to tell people to go outside and play. The outdoor market is expanding rapidly and there are many positive advantages to outdoor living. What is the difference between your courses?

We have courses on topics we can offer quality knowledge in. All courses have a free version on the website in text and photos. We don't want price to be an issue so we offer the free condensed courses with many ads while the paid version is more fully featured and has both a workbook and videos that contain more information than the free courses.

Do you make your customers "pay to play"?

No, not at all! our opinions and reactions to products and services we put on our recommendation page must be good. Mike and Josh were both machinist so they take quality and value into consideration and they have a list of criteria to judge weather or something is good or not.

Are you guys even qualified to talk about outdoor living?

Yes! Mike's family had an hunting and fishing store where he lived 13 miles outside the city. Mike is also a master gardener and has worked since 2010 in the tourism field. Josh has an MBS from Travecca University and has the Louisiana state champion coon dog in 2009. Both of them have many areas they are proficient in.

What is the main differences in the basic vs premium advertising plans?

The basic plan helps get into our advertising system at a lower cost for those starting out or who want to try us out for a term. The premium plan is for those who want better placements on more pages and for those who want lead generation for more sales. We do give more attention to the premium customers but the basic plan is great for most businesses. Either plan should suit your needs.

I've seen you guys on other shows, what is so different about the crockett coonhound?

We hope so! Mike and Josh are on several shows. Most crockett coonhound watchers will have seen them on their Older Dad Show where they talk about other issues. The crockett coonhound is basically the outdoor version of the older dad show where they focus on outdoor living and kids.
